I’ll make this quick. I’m sick as hell. My mom is visiting this weekend, and I woke up today with a KILLER cold. I couldn’t eat a full dinner so I took my Mom to Holmes Plate because I knew they had soup and it’s one of my favorite places in town. We both got French Onion Soup and split a BBQ Burger.

The Soup could have been a bit warmer. But if you ask my girlfriend, I have an uncanny tolerance for hot temperatures. It was tasty but I kind of wish I had gone with the Smoked Chicken Noodle.

Since I wasn’t feeling that great, my Mom and I split this BBQ Burger (photo).  Of course, Brendan (the owner) commented on his surprise I wasn’t getting ribs. If you saw my first review of Holmes Plate they blew me away. I haven’t gotten this before but man was it good. I wish I could cook a burger like that. I know R&M gets a lot of credit for good burgers in Corning but where R&M reminds me of a classic greasy soda-shop burger (I pretty much grew up in an authentic soda shop), Holme’s reminds me of a back yard BBQ burger… but bigger, juicer, and better. The only complaint I have about their burgers is I go to the Gym next door, and every time I leave HP is pumping out that damn amazing burger smell.

Oh and one last thing. I can not end without commenting on their French Fries. If you remember one thing, remember this: Holme’s plate has the best french fries in the area. I am something of a addict. Get some vinegar on the side with these fresh cut boardwalk style fries.  There’s a $1 charge to upgrade from their home made chips to fries, but it’s worth it. I’m glad they have this option. There are too many places that are switching over to home made chips. I hate homemade potato chips. I’ve never had them at Holme’s Plate, and I probably never will, simply because the fries are so awesome. OK my cold medicine is kicking in, so I better stop now before I say something that doesn’t make any sense pants.
